Use your computer to make engine balancing easier!

Would you like to balance quickly and accurately every time? If your answer is yes... you're in luck! "Weight-A-Minute" engine balancing software is now available from Goodson. This PC-based program for Windows 95/98 and NT will give you the answers you've been looking for.

Designed for the professional engine builder, this program expands your balancing machine into a complete balancing system. It offers you a powerful database for bobweight calculation, storage and management. The Heavy Metal and Drill Calculators have direct Radius / Gram and Ounce / Inch inputs. For first time users, it comes loaded with 50 sample jobs so you can familiarize yourself with the program's many features.

Bobweight Cards
You first select an engine type. As you enter just one of all the component weights, the program automatically calculates the bobweight with the correct formula for your selection. This eliminates the tedious task of separating rotating and reciprocating weights when calculating manually. A point-and-click button control is provided to adjust the reciprocating weight percentage to the desired value. One outstanding feature is the ability to find and sort Bobweight Cards by name, date, engine and CID. You can even find the average bobweight for a specific engine type.

Heavy Metal Calculator
With this feature, selecting heavy metal diameter and placement has never been easier. Simply use the point-and-click button controls to enter the unbalance, then you can vary the heavy metal diameter, length and correction radius to achieve the desired correction. The Heavy Metal Calculator then reports the number of slugs required, over-correction and even provides a nice graphic of the counterweight with heavy metal placement for print out. On some applications, the print out can even be used as a template.

Drill Calculator
With Weight-A-Minute's "radial compensation" feature, first time weight corrections are now a reality. When the drill is in the radial orientation (perpendicular to the axis of the crankshaft) the radius decreases during the correction. Radial compensation will correct for the loss of radius and provide the corrected drill depth. Point-and-click button controls allow you to enter the unbalance, drill size, correction radius, split corrections into multiple holes and even compensate for the weight of the drill points. Works for both steel and aluminum.

You can use the Drill Calculator with the Flexplate and Damper data to quickly convert a flywheel from a neutral to an external balance. You could also correct many crankshaft, flywheel and balancer mismatches without engine removal or disassembly. Simply select the desired radius and drill size, then the drill calculator converts the weight error to drill depths for the selected number of holes to make the correction. For example, you could convert an early 302 Ford flywheel to a late model or vice versa.

Balancing Data
This feature includes a list of externally balanced engines, reciprocating percentages, flexplate and damper data, as well as heavy metal tables and Goodson Heavy Metal order numbers. There is also a Personal Notes database for your general use. The program has a well organized, on-line "Help" system, in addition to the manual.

A Great Introduction to Balancing
For the shop that outsources the complete balance job, you can get into balancing by using the "Weight-A-Minute" program with a scale (Goodson Order No. BS-200) and rod weighing fixture (Goodson Order No. BS-201). You can then calculate and store the Bobweight Card, balance the rods and pistons in-house, then sublet only the crankshaft dynamic balancing. This is an excellent way to control weight removal and the part's finish to your customer's satisfaction. Plus, you'll get more of your share of the balancing profits.
