Build Horsepower the David Vizard Way!
Attend the 2-Day Seminar at TPI Specialties in Chaska, MN September 10 & 11, 2011
Good news also is that the deal with Goodson has allowed us to drop the per-seat cost by $200 from $550 to $350.
The Principle Speaker will be tech author and engine guru David Vizard.
Recognized as a world class authority on the production of high engine output, we have arranged for a David Vizard (DV) seminar atTPI Specialties, 4255 Creek Road, Chaska MN. Along with DV’s expertise we will also have Chris Osborn of Pac Springs, who will be showing hi-speed video of springs in action, both the good and the bad, and how best to avoid spring related valve train problems. Also supporting our program will be a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) presentation by David Woodruff of Design Dreams LLC. Here, for probably the first time, attendees’ will get to see a viable small shop ‘virtual’ flow bench. On site catering will be available (see below for details).

Agenda
Day #1 9.00 AM to 5.00PM (Lunch break about 12.30 and coffee breaks AM & PM)
- Targeting primary issue so as to maximize output.
- The CR – it’s overall engine spec implications and why these are rarely understood .
- Intake to exhaust flow ratio’s de-mystified.
- Valve sizes Vs bore sizes for a specific application (street, street/strip, race)
- Valve seat design and seat to port flow priorities
- Identifying valve shrouding and minimizing its negative effect on flow.
- Idealized port forms, port bias, and swirl.
- The real truth about port velocity, not the common lip service it is normally given.
- Valve area Vs port area for best torque and hp and it’s not what most may believe.
- Port energy – 99.9% of head specialists don’t measure this hyper important factor.
- Port velocity mapping and velocity gradients – much more than a sideline issue.
- 15 moves to allow for more compression.
- Looking at port velocities and mass flow via Computational fluid dynamics
- David Woodruff of Dream Design presentation:- small shop virtual flow bench.
- Small Shop or enthusiast porting for profit – 11 hours for $1000 plus results.
- Big bore stroker motors – fully utilize extra inches where most other fail.
After hours discussions (Saturday evening).
- The six worst mistakes made by most shops employing wet-flow protocol
- Why in-cylinder pressure measurement is today’s new ‘must have’ equipment for any small shop with a dyno
- How to build, in a weekend, a $20,000 flow bench for as little as $150
- Along with this DV and his co-presenters will be available to answer questions.

Day #2 9.00 AM to 5.00PM (Lunch break about 12.30 and coffee breaks AM & PM)
- Introduction to valve train dynamics.
- Tappet lift, velocity, acceleration, jerk and jerk II simply explained.
- Roller cam Vs flat tappet cam myths de-bunked.
- The importance of optimal valve springs for an all out engine.
- Presentation on valve springs (lots of Hi-speed video) Chris Osborne of Pac Springs.
- Assessing the value of light weight valve train parts.
- Rocker geometry and overall design – what to look for.
- Optimal valve events – getting the cam right first time.
- Identifying optimum Lobe Centerline Angles for your engine (not a generic version of it).
- Dyno tests showing what you are normally fed on LCA is wrong.
- Why #128 is the most important tool you can have toward cam event specing.
- Combustion chamber crevice volumes – power stolen by stealth.
- Total Seal rings – do they actually work? ($60,000 worth of DV’s dyno time in this).
- Aero-cranks – do they work?
- Thermal effects on power – thermal barriers etc. - do they work?
- Induction tuning science greatly simplified.
- Exhaust system science – again greatly simplified.
- Building a quiet ‘no- output loss’ muffler system.
- Cam spec sheets handout. When you leave with these spec sheets you will be able to pick a cam for your small or big block Chevy engine as effectively as the best engine builders in the world. The only difference is you will be able to do it in 15 seconds or less!
Catering:-
A barbeque style lunch at $11 a head (hamburgers, bratwurst, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, water, sodas) will be available on site both Saturday and Sunday along with tea/coffee and soft drinks available throughout the day on both days. If you have special food needs, make it known when registering.
