Shortening SB Mopar valve guides

November 30th, 2009

I am in the process of building a 360 Mopar engine for dirt track racing. I had read that to run a cam with greater than .450 lift I would have to shorten the valve guides.

What I am looking for is if this is correct how much would I have to shorten them by?

life of porting compounds

November 30th, 2009

I am in the process of planning my next porting project. To get the shapes and size I want I need to use a filling compound. What brand or type works best for long term usage? The project is a street car and I want to assemble it and forget about it. I do not want the compound coming loose or breaking down from heat and fuel. What is the best approach?

SBC Decking

November 30th, 2009

What is a good piston to head clearance for an engine that was zero decked? This is on a mild high-perf engine with hyperutectic flattop pistons and tight clearances. The engine was decked wrong and shows .004" piston out of the deck. Very scary. Could a head saver shim save the block? I usually deck to zero and have .041" clearance with gasket compressed thickness but this was decked elsewhere and I would like to see your thoughts.

Thanks

Seat cutter profiles for stock gm 487x heads circle track

November 30th, 2009

Joe-

I am building a engine for my race car GM 355 ci 9.4:1 compression have to run 1.94/1.50 valves also have to run stock casting heads I am running 487x castings. Max valve lift allowed is .500. I am trying to pick out some cutter profiles for intake and exhaust either yours or Goodson’s. I cannot do any porting on these heads. Would you suggest a regular three angle cutter then a 75 degree below it? Let me know. Your help is appreciated!

GM LS2 seat cutter profiles

November 30th, 2009

Joe
Do you have much experience with the GM LS2 and LQ4 series cylinder heads. If so what seat cutter inserts would you recomend? Also any bowl profile cutters etc? There is no port work done as this modification needs to be stricly in the seat bowl and chamber with no handwork.
Intake Valve 2.00"
exhaust valve 1.55"
Thank you very much!
