The economy bore gauges work great for the home repair shop. They are guaranteed acurate to the specifications stated on the indicater. Meaning the unit at one thousands is guaranteed to that figure. We also stock a one ten thousands unit. The reason they are more economical is the wear factor. They are manufactured of lighter materials, meaning a shorter life span. To the hobbiest or part time mechanic/machinist they are a great value and last a long time simply because they are not used day in and day out repeditively. This is where the service value comes out in our premium brand names. The dial bore gauges are calibrated using an out side micrometer. Set your outside micrometer to the size being measured, such as the standard bore size. Set or zero the bore gauge to that size and when the gauge is placed in the cylinder it will read how many thousands wear you have.
